Rio Tinto logo.

Rio Tinto is a leading global mining and materials company with 150 years of mining experience. We operate in 35 countries where our 60,000 employees are working to find better ways to provide the materials the world needs. Our portfolio includes iron ore, copper, aluminium, and other materials needed for people, communities, and nations to grow and prosper, and for the world to cut carbon emissions to net zero.

We are a global leader in aluminium, with a large-scale, vertically-integrated business: bauxite mines and alumina refineries as well as smelters producing aluminium certified as responsible, to now being able to offer fully recycled aluminium products through our Matalco joint venture.

We produce some of the highest quality, lowest-carbon footprint aluminium in the world: the greenhouse gas emissions intensity of our managed Atlantic Operations smelters represents less than one-fifth of the industry average.

Rio Tinto was the first company to receive certification against the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI)’s original standard in 2018, and we now have 23 of our aluminium operations certified against version 3 of the standard, demonstrating our continued commitment to responsible aluminium. Our ASI Chain of Custody certification also means we can also provide our customers ASI certified material across our bauxite, alumina and aluminium products. We will also become the first to deploy the ELYSISTM carbon-free smelting technology using the first technology licence issued by the ELYSIS joint venture.

Decarbonisation is key for us, and we are also focused on reducing our emissions. We are repowering our Queensland Aluminium operations, have long-term contracts to position Tiwai Point in New Zealand as a leader in low-carbon aluminium, exploringdouble digestion technology at our Queensland Alumina refinery and trialling the use of hydrogen at our alumina refineries.

We continue to cultivate strong partnerships with like-minded partners, who we are collaborating towards a sustainable future. Our aluminium plays an important role in many industries – we have successfully trialled the use of recycled-content billets, supplied low-carbon aluminium to Yamaha Motors to enable more sustainable transportation solutions in Japan, and trialled the production of a sustainable beverage can in Australia.

Our purpose is at the core of everything we do. It inspires our efforts and guides our decisions. Finding better ways™ to provide the materials the world needs.

G James logo.

G.James Aluminium Products, a division of the G.James Group, has been a cornerstone of Australia’s aluminium manufacturing industry since its establishment in 1981. With its headquarters in Eagle Farm, Brisbane, this family-owned business has built a solid reputation for delivering high-quality, Australian-made aluminium extrusions within a vertically integrated supply chain.

Focussing on standard and custom geometric extrusions, G.James Aluminium Products services a diverse range of industries, including original equipment manufacturing (OEM), construction, and transport. G.James Aluminium Products draws on its in-house capabilities, which include die design and manufacture, surface finishing, fabrication, and machining. This vertical integration allows for measured control over quality and lead times, offering clients a seamless experience from concept to completion.

At the heart of G.James’ operations are two state-of-the-art extrusion presses at their Brisbane facility. These presses boast a combined production capacity exceeding 3,000 tonnes per month, enabling the company to meet substantial market demands. This significant output is further supported by ISO 9001 accreditation, reflecting G.James’ unwavering commitment to quality management and a continuous drive to improve its manufacturing processes.

Recently, G.James introduced EcoAL billet to meet the growing demand for environmentally conscious solutions.EcoAL billet is manufactured using cleaner, more sustainable power sources during the smelting process, which is recognised as the most energy-intensive phase of aluminium manufacturing.EcoAL positions itself as a smarter, future-ready choice by reducing overall emissions. Customers can choose from two grades—EcoAL4 and EcoAL8, allowing themto align their selection with their sustainability goals without compromising quality or performance.

In addition to the EcoAL range, G.James also offersGreenCast – an aluminium billet containing 20% recycled content. Greencast provides a responsible alternative for customers seeking to lower the environmental impact of their projects and further supports G.James’ commitment to sustainability in Australian manufacturing.

G.James’ in-house remelt capability is another part of their commitment to resource efficiency and demonstrates the infinite recyclability feature of aluminium. Recovered and recycled scrap aluminium is melted down and formed into ingots, which are then recast into high-quality components. These castings support various industries, including marine, construction, landscaping services and park furniture, while enabling customers to adopt circular practices in their supply chain.

Beyond aluminium extrusions, the G.James Group is one of Australia’s largest and most diverse producers of glass and aluminium-based products. Their expertise spans aluminium windows and doors, building facades, and secondary glass processing. With approximately 1800 employees operating from over 30 locations nationwide, G.James combines the agility of a family-run enterprise with the scale of a national manufacturer.
